Driving into the Future: Busting Electric Vehicle Myths and Embracing the EV Revolution
Electric Vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, however there are still some misconceptions surrounding them. Recent research* from Churchill Expert showed that 50% of consumers are worried about how long the EV battery might last (range), while 34% were concerned about the lack of public charging facilities.
To bust some myths, we sent our EV experts off to the EV Rally 2023 to join over 50 cars, vans and lorries, travelling over 1200 miles across the UK and Ireland.
Leading Team Churchill was Head of EV strategy Steve Williams who said, “I’ve been lucky enough drive an EV since January 2023 using DLG’s salary sacrifice scheme to help make it more affordable. Leading up to the rally, I was confident that we’d complete the challenge with limited issues as the Tesla Model 3 we were driving had a range of 329 miles, which goes a long way.
“I was quite interested to see how the vans and lorries would fare as the ranges on these vehicles are generally far less. However, it’s safe to say that due to the availability of chargers up and down the country, and the exceptional coordination of the events team, nobody ran out of charge, and we all completed the rally without any major problems.”
Ian Exworth, Director of Emerging & Specialist Markets added, “I was really looking forward to joining the many other drivers in one of the country’s biggest annual EV events. Even though I have had some experience driving various electric cars over the years, I didn’t know what to expect as we were driving long distances covering over 600 miles.
“The truth is, I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. We only needed to charge our car once a day and the comfort of the vehicle along with driver assistance technology, made travelling long distances a dream. I was also very surprised to see so many of the larger vans and lorries made their way around the course with no issues and will never forget the electric van towing 100 tonnes up one of the steepest roads I’ve ever seen – this was impressive and demonstrates how far the technology has come.”
