GREEN FLAG LAUNCHES OWNED BREAKDOWN PATROL SERVICE ACROSS THE NORTHWEST
Breakdown provider Green Flag has officially launched its owned and operated patrol service across the Northwest, covering Manchester, Liverpool and the surrounding areas. The launch follows the successful roll out of Green Flag’s owned patrols in Yorkshire (February 2024), the West Midlands (July 2023) and Scotland (January 2023). In the first half of 2024, Green Flag’s owned patrols have completed 7,612 jobs1.
The Northwest expansion will see Green Flag’s trained patrol technicians assist customers experiencing car problems such as tyre and battery related breakdowns. The new service complements the existing independent network of third-party roadside vehicles and technicians who support Green Flag customers and who will continue to focus on complex recoveries.
Customers who find themselves in a breakdown situation with a flat battery that is unserviceable can buy a new battery at the roadside and have it immediately installed, subject to stock availability2. In fact, almost a quarter (23.4%)3 of all call outs for Green Flag’s owned patrols have seen customers purchase a product at the roadside, getting people moving again faster, rather than them having to sort the issue out themselves at a later date.
Following the Northwest launch, Green Flag will be expanding its breakdown patrol services into the East Midlands, London, Essex, the South-East and the Southwest over the remainder of 2024 and in to 2025.
Katie Lomas, Managing Director Green Flag, commented: “We are delighted to officially launch our patrol service across the Northwest. Expanding our owned roadside assistance service allows us to enhance our service offerings and provide timely solutions when our customers need them most. With an average response time of under an hour, we are proud to be offering a one-stop shop with everything from tyres and batteries to MOTs and car servicing.”
Green Flag is one of the leading breakdown providers, offering drivers 24/7 assistance from 3,000 expert technicians all over the UK.

Notes to Editors
1. Internal data taken from the first half of 2024 (1st January 2024 – 30th June 2024)
2. Our Green Flag patrol technicians will carry out extensive diagnostics and testing at the roadside. Based on the results, they will either boost the battery if it is still fit for use, or if the battery needs a replacement, there are two options:
a. They’ll find the correct battery type the customer needs and replace this for the customer and reprogramme the battery to the vehicle if required.
b. If the patrol is unable to replace the battery due to stock, or the customer has declined a replacement – Patrol will provide all the information the customer needs so they can make an informed decision on how to fix their vehicle.
